Abstract

Converting between moles, mass, gas volume at STP and number of particles.

Concept preview

What you will be able to do

  1. 01Convert between moles and mass using the molar mass
  2. 02Convert between moles and gas volume at STP
  3. 03Convert between moles and number of particles, including multi-step problems

The mole sits at the centre of a map: on one side is mass, on another is the number of particles, and on a third is the volume of a gas. Every calculation goes from the starting unit TO moles and then FROM moles to the final unit. The three bridges are the molar mass (grams per mole), Avogadro's number (6.02×10236.02\times10^{23} particles per mole) and, for gases at STP, the molar volume (22.4 L22.4\ \text{L} per mole).
